Drag Race: Tesla's Model X SUV takes on some flashy, sexy supercars

Have you ever seen a Porsche or Lamborghini dragging a full size luxury SUV? Maybe not. But times have changed. The Tesla Model X Plaid has the courage to face some of the sexiest supercars on the dragstrip.

YouTube channel DragTimes brings us the thrill and excitement of watching a 5,390-pound (2,445-kg) Tesla Model X Plaid insult the internal combustion engine (ICE) superstar.

In a previous test, DragTimes was able to confirm that The Tesla Model X Plaid is the world’s fastest, most powerful SUV When it comes to 0-60 mph acceleration and 1/4 mile times.

Model X Plaid vs Porsche 992 Turbo S

The Porsche 992 Turbo S is currently the fastest production car from the German luxury performance car maker. The 992 Turbo S’s all-wheel drive (AWD) twin-turbo engine drivetrain can produce 650 hp of power.

Although the Tesla Model X plaid Has 1,020 horsepower – about 1,775 lbs lighter than the Porsche 992 Turbo S (3,615.58 lbs) Model X Plaid. So the Porsche’s power-to-weight ratio is pretty comparable.

instant torque, tri-motor AWD, and Plaid Launch Mode (Drag Strip Mode) were too much to handle for the Porsche 992 Turbo S. Tesla Model X plaid left it faded in the side-view mirror.

For Porsche enthusiasts, it can be painful to watch but it’s still worth a look – let’s see.

Tesla Model X Plaid vs Lamborghini Huracan EVO

With an MSRP of $304K, You Can Buy Two Tesla Model X Plaid SUV (Specs & Pricing) For the price of a Lamborghini Huracan EVO. Like the Porsche 992, the Huracan EVO is also a 5.2L V10 engined AWD car with an additional 630 horsepower.

The Huracan EVO is 1,745 pounds lighter than the Model X Plaid (5,390 pounds), so that should be a good power-to-weight ratio compared to the Plaid X’s 1,020 horsepower.

Yet this flashy supercar lost out on the dragstrip to a family SUV and—by a healthy margin—a wake-up call for today’s ICE sportscar makers.

Judging by the results of both tests, one thing in common is the Tesla Model X Plaid’s consistent performance. It ran all quarter mile runs in less than 10 seconds at about 145 mph.

The performance of the Porsche 992 Turbo S was much better than the Lamborghini Huracan EVO. The Porsche ran the quarter mile in less time than the Lambo, so congratulations to the Porsche team for finishing second overall in the competition.
