Elon Musk announces two new Tesla paint colors enabled by the new 'world's most advanced paint shop'
Elon Musk announced that the Tesla Gigafactory is going to make two new paint colors available through its new “world’s most advanced paint shop” in Berlin.
In the early days of the Model S, Tesla used to offer a variety of colors, but the automaker decided to streamline the options, and it now only offers a handful of color options that have remained the same from the past few years.
CEO Elon Musk is talking about Tesla finally releasing new paint, but it has been tied to a new “most advanced paint shop” at the Gigafactory Berlin.
CEO talks about the new layered paints:
Giga Berlin will house the world’s most advanced paint shop, with more layers of stunning colors that change slowly along the curvature.
Late last year, three new colors appeared in the Tesla app – alluding to possible new color options:
- Deep Crimson Multicoat
- abyss blue multicoat
- Mercury Silver Metallic
Now that Tesla has officially started production at the Gigafactory Berlin, we’re expecting to see new colors soon. During an event for the start of Model Y deliveries at Gigafactory Berlin, Musk was asked about these upcoming new shades, which have been in the news for some time.
He replied:
With regards to colors and what colors are going to be available from this factory, colors are always a challenge because when you think about colors, you not only need to make it, but also serve you. and it has to be corrected for 20 years. , We have to think, ‘What are we going to do to the service team?’
Despite this limitation, Musk reiterated that the Tesla Gigafactory would be making the new colors out of Berlin — starting with two:
We have to be careful with the total number of colors, but we’re going to make something special here, and it’s so much more than color, but layers of paint to get the dimension. We are going to make a very special red, which may have been seen by many people. It’s like 13 layers of paint. And we’ll probably also have a silver one with eight layers. It’s also going to be special – like a liquid silver.
They appear to be two of three new colors leaked via the app – though nothing was mentioned about Abyss Blue.
The CEO said that people have already seen the red color as it is rumored that it is the color of his own personal Model S, which has been spotted earlier. Musk said the new colors should be coming to the Model Y in the next few months.
Last month, we got a peek at the Gigafactory Berlin Paint Shop that’s enabling these new multi-layered shades.
