Flying Tesla case takes a turn as man claiming to be a Model S driver denies involvement
The case for the Tesla Model S that flew last weekend has taken a strange turn. After initially claiming to be the driver of the unfortunate vehicle, social media influencer Dominicas “Durte Dom” Zegliitis has clarified that he actually lied about his participation in the stunt. Zeglaitis explained his updated stance on the incident in a video uploaded to his personal YouTube channel.
After videos of the Model S’s dramatic jump this past weekend went viral, Zeglitis shared several posts on TikTok, claiming he was behind the wheel of a car. A TikTok video featured the influencer with the caption “I just crashed my new Tesla,” and in a follow-up clip, Zeglitis called the insane Tesla jump “my stunt.” He also mocked the Los Angeles Police Department’s investigation on the matter.
With the LAPD offering a $1,000 reward for information about the driver of the flying Tesla, and Zeglaitis’s TikTok video going viral, it didn’t take long for police to direct the police towards social media influencers. Zeglitis was contacted by the police about his possible involvement in the incident, and he was also interviewed by the media. The TikTok personality opted to update his stance, saying he edited himself into a video of a jumping Model S, which was pretty easy since he owns a Tesla.
For now, Zeglaitis is firm on denying any involvement in the Flying Tesla incident, though he is feeling some of the effects of the stunt. His TikTok account was banned since the spread of the Flying Tesla video, and Zeglitis noted that he had experienced a lot of criticism online. “You can’t believe everything you see on the internet. The media likes to capitalize on the downfall of public figures and if they don’t have a story to attack, they will make one up,” said Zeglitis Quite ironic considering that Zeglitis was the one who claimed to have put himself in the position that he was behind the stunt.
Alex Choi, who uploaded video of the incident to his YouTube channel, backed up Zeglitis’ updated story, noting that the Model S’s driver was part of a meeting he had held earlier that night. Choi said he was not warned about the stunt, as the Model S driver jumped without warning. The YouTuber claimed that he does not know the driver of the unfortunate Model S, and it is unclear whether he is cooperating with the police to resolve the matter.
The unfortunate part is that the unlucky, flying Tesla Model S was just rented from Enterprise. So far, it appears the LAPD has yet to speak to the person who hired Tesla. Stunt victim, Jordan Hook, whose Subaru SUV was damaged by a flying Model S, has also started a GoFundMe to help replace his damaged vehicle. Both Zeglitis and Choi have since donated to Hook’s fundraiser in writing form.
