Mountain town becomes 'Tesla Village' after Model Y owner persuaded a group of people to buy an electric SUV
A small mountain town in China became known as the “Tesla Village” after a Tesla owner persuaded dozens of people to buy Model Y electric SUVs for their businesses.
Tesla has had a lot of success over the years in China’s big cities, but is now rapidly expanding to other remote areas. There are some big success stories that Tesla is now starting to share.
This week Tesla shared the story of Kai Run from Panjiga village in China’s Yunnan province on its official Weibo account. Cai worked in large Chinese cities for years, but he recently returned to his hometown when a new bridge connected it to a major roadway – bringing plenty of tourism to the quaint small town.

This led him to open a small hotel, but he also returned with his Tesla Model Y.
Cai persuaded several of his neighbors to buy Tesla vehicles, and the small village now has a fleet of 30 Model Ys. Some villagers who follow Cai’s recommendations prefer to use their Model Y as part of their local businesses, even selling their products from their electric SUVs:

Tourism picked up enough in the area that Cai’s own hotels and other smaller venues that were open were not enough to supply demand, and now some Model Y owners use their cars as a place to stay for the night. Presenting in:

Tesla is known for having “Camp Mode” which enables the use of the vehicle’s system for camping when parked. Many owners have been known to use the feature on road trips.
