Tesla Gigafactory Berlin finally expected to be approved for productionthis week 2022

Tesla is reportedly due to get final approval to begin production at the Gigafactory Berlin this week after months of delay.

The Gigafactory Berlin, a key new factory for Tesla’s plans to expand into Europe and improve its manufacturing and distribution efficiency, has been in limbo for months.

The automaker is yet to secure the necessary environmental permits to begin producing vehicles for delivery to customers.

Last month, Tesla confirmed that it made the first few Model Ys at the Gigafactory Berlin in late 2021.

The automaker also received approval to manufacture 2,000 Model Y bodies at the Gigafactory Berlin before final approval by the state of Brandenburg.

Tesla said it needs to conduct more tests of its production process, and it has not been approved to deliver those vehicles.

However, it looks like the factory is underway and hundreds of new Model Y vehicles have been seen leaving the factory last week.

Despite this significant development, there was no news of Tesla receiving its environmental approval, with further talks about concerns over the water supply at the plant.

Now a week later it looks like things are moving forward.

german newspaper tagspigal Reports that the Prime Minister of Brandenburg, Dietmar Vodke met with a special task force for the Tesla project last week and that the team managed to agree on environmental approval of the project.

Approvals are expected by the end of the week – likely Thursday or Friday.

This approval will enable Tesla to begin production of Model Y vehicles for customer delivery, which is now expected by the end of March.

The same report also said that Tesla is planning a “grand opening” ceremony on March 22 or 23 to deliver the first vehicles manufactured at the Gigafactory Berlin.

Interestingly, it looks like deliveries at Gigafactory Berlin will begin with the start of deliveries from Gigafactory Texas, which is also expected to have its first new Model Y in customer hands by the end of March.

However, the new Model Ys from Texas is expected to feature Tesla’s new 4680 battery cell, while the new Model Ys from Germany is going to be equipped with the 2170 cell format.

Tesla has yet to update the specs of the new vehicles it will deliver.
