Tesla Model 3 Added to Police Department Fleet

The Lynn Creek Police Department decided to add the Tesla Model 3 to its fleet. The Model 3 vehicle is built with all the usual police cruiser requirements, including flashing red and blue lights, radio and a siren.

Chief Jeff Christiansen and Mayor Jeff Davis both believe the Tesla Model 3 is a good investment, saying the vehicle will save costs in the long run.

Lynn Creek City Council recently approved the purchase of a Model 3 patrol vehicle. Chief Christiansen did not take the decision lightly. He studied the cost of other vehicles and even considered fixing up old police cruisers before landing on the idea of buying a Tesla.

“I sat down and researched the new Ford Explorer Interceptor, Dodge Chargers. I went to Meyer, had some discussion about it, and even looked into buying an older car that we have,” Lynn Creek said the head of the police department.

Ultimately, Chief Christiansen and Meyer Davis calculated that the cost savings of the Tesla Model 3 made it a good investment, especially given rising gas prices. Many electric car owners see the relatively low maintenance cost of EVs as a good reason to move away from fossil fuel cars.

“It’s got an eight year, 120,000 mile warranty on the battery alone. I thought we were going to do 70 miles a day, at less than 12,000 miles a year, this car would last a long time for us, and a pilot Will be on the show. We just thought, we’ll see what happens with it,” Kristian explained.

Coming up with his own estimates, Mayor Davis said: “It’s a great investment for our city. The cost savings as far as routine maintenance, upkeep, fuel savings, it’s about $3,000, this one from There will be more explorers. We will probably get it done with the current gas prices, we can easily make it within a year.

during an interview with KY3, Kristiansen noted the beginning of a pilot program with the Tesla Model 3 Police program, hinting that Lynn Creek is exploring the possibility of an EV fleet in the future. Several police departments have started their transition to EVs with Tesla over the years and have gone on to buy more Tesla Cruisers in the future. For the Lynn Creek Police Department, they are at the beginning of their EV journey.
