Tesla named 'most trusted' brand developing fully autonomous vehicles
Tesla was recently named the “most trusted” brand in the pursuit of fully autonomous vehicles, according to a new study. The study surveyed consumer perception regarding fully autonomous vehicle technology.
There were fifty-six total automotive brand options for consumers to choose from in the study, a release from autopacific, who conducted the study, said. Tesla topped the list by securing 32 percent of the vote, beating Toyota by 19 percent and BMW by 18 percent.

“With 32% of consumers, Tesla claims to be the most trusted brand for developing safe and reliable fully-autonomous vehicles,” the study said. “This possibility can be credited to much of the ‘buzz’ surrounding the automaker’s valuable and controversial full-self-driving driver assistance technology in which current Tesla owners are able to sign up as volunteers and level 2 semi-autonomous vehicles.” Autonomous hands-free capability to help demonstrate Tesla’s own R&D efforts.”
Tesla’s full self-driving suite is available to anyone who buys a vehicle from the automaker and wants to pay an additional $12,000. It is not a fully autonomous system and requires the attention of the driver at all times. Tesla has a beta program for a full self-driving suite, which qualifies drivers based on safety scores calculated based on driver behavior. The beta fleet has more than 60,000 users, and CEO Elon Musk said it will be released in Canada next week.
Toyota was the second most trusted brand in the survey with 19 percent of the votes. “In early March the brand began rolling out its first Level 2 semi-autonomous hands-free driving assist for the 2022 model year of the hydrogen-powered Mirai,” the study said. “Perhaps not surprisingly, the younger the consumer, the more likely they are to trust Tesla while the older the consumer, the more trust swings for Toyota.”
Perhaps the most interesting company to make it to the top 10 list is Apple. Despite not having a vehicle, although thunder indicated that one might be in the works, 13 percent of people chose Apple as their most trusted brand. Apple’s credibility as a software company and tech magnate clearly makes it a reliable choice. However, with relatively no real progress on its EV production and no products yet in the pipeline, Apple remains highly reliable and could develop an autonomous vehicle within the decade, as the company completely replaced Kevin Lynch. Apple was promoted to release the car. Autonomous driving system in November.
