Volvo Trucks wins record order for 126 electric semis from Maersk-owned performance team

Volvo Trucks North America today announced that it has received its largest global order of Class 8 electric semi-trucks with the Maersk-owned performance team. The Maersk unit added 110 units to its order, making a commitment to purchase 126 Volvo VNR all-electric trucks after an initial order in Q3 2021 for 16 VNR electric semis.

The performance team will begin operations in its Southern California fleet operations in the second quarter of 2022, which will operate on the port dredge and warehouse distribution routes, Volvo said in a release. The demonstration team also issued another order for 110 additional trucks “in an effort to increase its zero-tailpipe emissions freight logistics fleet in 2022”. Volvo’s VNR all-electric semi-truck will make its way to the performance team in Q1 2023.

The two TCE equipment locations are suitable for any maintenance that VNR Semi may require, as the service teams have been trained and equipped to handle battery-electric truck maintenance needs for customers.

The VNR Semi packs an operational range of 275 miles. With 250 kW of charging capacity, which is capable of charging 80 percent in 90 minutes for a six-battery package or just over an hour for a four-battery configuration, there won’t be much time to wait as the truck is fully loaded.
